Here is an example of keeping our target audience interested due to our target audience mainly being at  16-24 and more at girls then boys we tried keeping them interested by talking about make up due to us being teenage girls we knew this is what they would be interested in to keep there attention as they could relate to what we was talking about.





When looking into our target audience we realised that round about this age group loose attention quickly so to stop this we made it fast pace and jumped straight into it we didn't want to waste to much time before it got dramatic as our aim was to keep the audiences attention this is also were mysterious music began to play which really helped create tension and keep our audience engaged as explained above in the powerpoint.

Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

If our thriller was an actual film our target audience would have been 16 - 24 working/middle class relevant to both genders this is due to the fact that this is our age group and because all the actors featured were around this age group it would have captured the eye of this age group more, also with gender i think it would capture the eye of more females than males due to if this wasn't just an opening sequence we would have gone into the life's of the girls in which our killer aimed to capture and murder who was in the picture at the end of our thriller due to this it would have been looking into the life's of females which some males we see as too feminine to watch however just in our opening we aimed to target both genders and this is why we made our killer a male so it wasn't all females taking part. However i created a survey on SurveyMonkey to get accurate feedback below are the results.

Most respondents were under 18 years old and the next highest result was 18-24 years, due to this we see that our target audience made up most of the results and because of these results resulting in this we could see what interests our target audience the most so we could take this into consideration with our thriller. 

The most popular film genre selected by respondents was comedy, then followed by horror this could result in the age groups taking this survey, due to comedy being a genre every age group can enjoy. Horror being the next most popular genre selected, this can be because most of respondents were of the age group under 18 due to youth enjoying films that give them excitement and catch their eye. We know this because this age group is prone to loosing interest in things a lot more quickly than other age groups and the tension and suspense in horrors is what captures the eye of this age group. This shows that 3/4 young people are more likely to have selected horror in this survey were as the older age groups was more likely to have selected comedy. 

Suspense was the most popular convention next to crime selected by respondents this resulted great for us due to them being the two main conventions in our thriller. This proved that the people who took this questionnaire will enjoy our thriller. Youth themes is least popular this could be due to the respondents who was older than 24 as it is something they wouldn't really relate too and due to this loose interest. 

Overall this survey showed that our true audience for our thriller are those under 18 this is normally people around the age 15-17. We know this because the respondents were mainly under 18, we could see that our target audience we predicted was very accurate as in our favoured films chart you could see third popular was thriller, due to us not being able to add comedy to our thriller to interest our respondents as this would make the whole thing very unrealistic, we made sure we made a horror thriller as we thought this would be more eye catching for our target audience. Due to these results we knew who would watch our thriller, We knew that the younger age groups selected horror and thriller because we watched the results come in and when someone in the under 18 age group submitted a survey the scores for the horror and thriller category raised, due to this we know that our target audience from this survey is 16 - 24, we also know this is the right age group to target at our thriller because of feedback we gathered from asking people who watched our thriller which can be seen in my screening blog.   

After this survey we asked people why they would watch our thriller to make the feedback the most accurate, which we got results such as 'tension, dramatic, eye catching, fun, exciting and mysterious' which was the feedback that we hoped for.

In this question we had to consider how our media product would be distributed realistically we done this by considering the pro's and con's of the different production methods. We answered this question using a video. This is shown below.

Audience Feedback Rough Cut

Our audience feedback was okay however most people lost interest due to the fact it didn't look very realistic without the sound and transitions due to the music and effects giving a lot of suspense and tension however some people said how it looked really good and they couldn't wait to see the completed thriller this was good because it showed the audience seemed interested in it even without the editing this was mostly because they found the story line interesting and a rough cut is really just showing whats going on in the thriller and the story line this made us feel more confident and think that are actual thriller was going to be good.

However there was negative feedback as well some of this was the the first clip shown was too long and due to this you could hear Louis talking whilst filming us. However this was easily resolved as we just cut it a little shorter we also explained to them that it was only that long because thats were the titles were going to go so it wont feel that long once they was added into it. They also laughed a lot due to it not looking realistic for example when the hooded guy stabbed me you couldn't hear the sound of the knife as he didn't actually stab me and no sound was added at this point so this was rather comical rather than serious, also when i see Sarah dead we cut my scream to short so we had to go back and make that longer and solved it.


This feedback helped us very much due to the fact if we didn't get it we may not have realised these mistakes and this could of effected our overall grade for our completed thriller, this really helped us realise what went well, another thing that helped is that they gave us suggestions for when we did add transitions and effects and music/ sound which helped us have a better idea for when we started editing these features.


Overall the audience feedback helped share opinions and ideas for the completed thriller and also helped us see the difference in the feedback from this and the completed opening sequence of a thriller which shows a complete contrast as most feedback in the rough cut was negative however in the finished thriller opening sequence we see how much positive feedback was gathered and this shows how much editing does and how much effects in which it creates.

Analysis Of Rough cut

A rough cut is when you put all your footage together in order cutting the clips down to the pieces you need, this is put together simply with no transitions, effects or sound. When making our rough cut we kept to this by not adding any effects or transitions or non - diegetic sound it just had a rough understanding of what our thriller will be like and help us figure out what effects and transitions we want to put into it. In my opinion the rough cut helped a lot and it needed when making a film sequence as it helps so you don't get confused with all the footage at once and instead put it together in a more simple way. We did make some mistakes however if we didn't make a rough cut we may not have realised these mistakes if we went straight into it.



To start our rough cut we had to take all our footage cutting down the clips to the relevant bits that didn't show any mistakes and we cut it so that we knew that it would fit smoothly with the other clips. We had to watch all the footage were some showed a lot of mistakes and retakes which were quiet funny to watch back, and we had to pick the ones that we found went best. When putting all the footage together we needed to make sure that there wasn't terrible mistakes so it didn't look too unrealistic. We was quiet proud of how our footage turned out although we did think without any effects or transitions it looked rather boring and silly and very unrealistic.



However completing a rough cut before going straight into editing really helped us come up with idea's when putting transitions and other sounds in it also made us realise mistakes we had made when filming for example like coming out of continuity at points in the footage were we cut out however if we went straight in for the kill we probably wouldn't have noticed these little mistakes until  finishing up, this also made us think about titles and Idents and come up with idea's for the titles and how we was going to show them and how long overall we wanted the titles and Ident to last.



Overall i think a rough cut is necessary when editing clips together and making a video in order for the completed bit of footage to be effective and at its best standard.

Filming 2

After filming at The Chase we went on to film at my house. The weather was not an issue due to it being inside we didn't have to worry about rain and we didn't have to worry about it getting dark so that the completed thing was at different times due to it being inside. However there was some issues one being space was tighter than The Chase so we had to find a suitable place for the tripod were it would fit.

A problem in which we had to deal with was background noise, as my family were home so they occasionally made noise however because the mic is so sensitive it picked it up even when they was quiet, At first we told them to be quiet they tried but they didn't keep to it due to this we decided not to use the sound mic and use the cameras built in mic as it wasn't as good it didn't pick up the noises from down stairs and just in the room in which we was filming in.

We started of by filming me entering my house and going to the stairs so that the audience see us entering a new location. We then filmed me walking into my room through my door in which i turn on the light and see Sarah dead on my floor, we then showed the stalker come in from behind and stabbing me, The last shot in my opinion was really effective it was a picture in the hooded guys hands of a couple of girls including me and Sarah in which he crosses us out in my blood on the knife to show the audience he was coming for the other girls if this was to be continued.

Filming 1

When we first went filming we shot the scenes that were at the chase. These were the scenes in which were in roughly the first half of our completed thriller. The filming on this day took much longer than filming 2 due to the fact it was outside and there was much more natural sounds that kept interrupting our filming however there wasn't too much back ground noise and it went very well as there wasn't much people at the chase so that was less disruptions. The weather was clear and although it was freezing it wasn't raining so the equipment was not at risk and the weather didn't stop us from having to film. We also had to adjust the tripod quite frequently due to the land not being being level. Other than that there was no problems with surroundings on the set in which we decided to film our thriller.

We did spot an issue in were we couldn't find a suitable place to film as we needed a private open area in our planning we planned to do it on the deck near the lake however when we got there we realized this was really hard to film on being next to the lake it was to much of a risk of the camera falling to be able to do over the shoulder shots, so we tried to do a medium shot of both us but this did not look good and we decided we needed a new place to film, however this issue was resolved quickly as there was a bench right near the area wee was at and there was a bush right opposite this bench which made it ideal due to us planning the hooded guy to be spying at me and Sarah through it. We tried this spot and it worked perfectly.


So we began filming at the entrance of the nature park we thought this would look really good as the nature park was called The Chase so the sign had that on it this was our first shot as we thought it was effective as the chase was the name of our thriller due to us being chased and the park was called The Chase. There was the a shot of me and Sarah walking further into The Chase as we was the main charterers its best to introduce us first. We then changed scenes to us sitting on a bench were we filmed this we had a tiny conversation and then realized we were being watched in which we run out the park.

Editing 2

This post is about how we finished off  editing our thriller, at this point we edited in our Ident, we then put the titles in and finally our candidate introduction. After putting this in we edited the titles and footage around a little bit so it looked much better and run more smoothly, we then just focused on editing in the start of the thriller and the end to make sure they went together good and didn't look stupid  this is because we was editing the footage in chunks meaning we edited it in small parts so we needed to make sure it went together well. We also added new music as the music we added before this wasn't very realistic and sounded a bit stupid however we then found music we found fit it much better and this made the thriller much more effective. 

Below is the screen shot of our finished completed thriller in which you may notice the start of the thriller not being rendered and media being offline however this is due to taking the screen shot on a different computer then the one that the thriller is originally saved to this resulted to media being offline on this computer and is not a technical issue. 

Editing 1

When we started to edit first we looked through all our footage the peices in which we decided to use we added them to start our editing, we then cut all the bad footage out and put it all in straight cuts to make a rough cut, we did this instead of going into editing fully with transitions and stuff so that we didn't get confused this helped us so that we didn't make any stupid mistakes and so that ir didn't get to confusing.

When we went through all the footage we had to delete and cut out a lot of mistakes and retakes, this was mostly due to surrounding sounds for example loads of planes were flying and you could hear the sounds so this kept happening so we had to keep retaking the scenes that this happened in because you couldn't hear us. We then cut the useful footage down to the useful bits in which we needed which were cut into short clips. We then joined the clips all together with no effects, we did this so that we could see that it will all go okay together and there was no obvious mistakes for example once we done this we see that in one clip the door was open however it wasn't in the one before so we had to cut this down even more so that the door wasn't open. Once we sorted out all silly mistakes like this we had a simple running sequence in which was our rough cut. We spoke about this in our blogs and spoke about the rough cut.


Once we had finished the rough cut we started to add the transitions, music and effects and then began to play with it we also changed the order of some of the clips as we thought it looked more effective and so it looked better with the titles in which we would add in. This was our first editing session and we played around more with the start of the thriller, we also split the starting footage up so there was space to add the titles, we also realized we should have got more clips of the guy in the hoodie in the nature park scene however we decided to repeat this clip but add it in reversing this looked really good and you wouldn't even realize its the same clip.

Audience FeedBack On Completed Thriller

We showed our finished thriller to some friends and people we knew to get feedback on our thriller this feedback was helpful to us to see how well that we produced it.

At the start of the thriller a lot of people said they like how we started of slow instead of rushing into the drama they said this helped build more tension and made the ending look more realistic. They also said the point of view of the bad guy in the hoodie was a really good shot to show how he was watching me and Sarah however everyone that watched this did say that the bit were me and Sarah was talking about make up its noticeable that i look at the character loosing character making it not looking very realistic. They also said that the set we chose was really good due to the country park being a very quiet place that gives of tension because its common to see this set in scenes in movies were people are being followed. This was good feedback as thrillers are meant to have a lot of suspense and it was seen that we done this.


The people who watched the screening of our thriller also explained how the cliff - hanger at the end of our title sequence was very creative and made them want to be able to watch the rest to see what would happen. They said this was seen at the close up of the photo of the girls in the picture and explained that this was really affective. They also said that this bit had their full attention and that it was a really good way to end it. This was really good as they was eager to know more about who them girls are and why does this guy want to kill them this is another thing that is seen in good thrillers mystery and it come across that we showed this affectively and showed us we done a good job.


They also said that it was always interesting they never lost interest in watching it and that they was fully engaged in it this is because the suspense and mystery made them curious they said even though it was dramatic it wasn't to other the top to the fact it looked stupid and due to this made it more realistic they said that the story line was really good to show in just the opening sequence as they had a strong understanding to what was happening however still left them with unanswered questions they said it was very well edited and due to this helped them to concentrate on it and to know what was happening.


We did get a lot of positive feedback however there still was some negative feedback this was seen in the acting of the people in the thriller we can not change this as it would mean re filming the whole thing or certain scenes and would take to much time. The acting at the beginning of the opening was seen as rather comical by the audience and they laughed a few times due to this for example when Chloe fell over it looked rather stupid as it was meant to look dramatic however came across as rather funny in the way she fell didn't look very realistic another example is when chloe was running as she runs funny and made it again look more comical then dramatic. Another bit of negative feedback people said was the sound if the knife stabbing Chloe as it sounded a bit stupid and far fetched however we tried to find a good enough sound with this and that seemed to be the best one we could find.


Overall the audience feedback wasn't as bad as it could have been and we are proud that we did get so much positive feedback they commented on how good the sounds went with the footage and how the editing looked really good and believable although there was some down sides and idea's they gave us for scenes which would have made it look really good however we are really happy with how this turned out and the audience thought so too. The audience feedback helped us see were we can improve for future filming and made us feel more confident on how it turned out. 

Screening

When we completed our thriller we had to screen it to an audience to find out their opinions on it. We uploaded our opening sequence of a thriller to youtube and then shared it to to Facebook to try and get feedback we did this because then people who could have gave us feedback wouldn't have been friends or family so there opinions wouldn't have been bias so they would have told us the good and bad.  However we didn't get any feedback through this so we gathered some from our sixth form who were free and asked them to watch. They gave us feedback on what they thought of the editing, story line and the opening in general.

We needed to screen our thriller in order to gather some audience feedback this helps us know how well we have done and if there is any space for improvements. The feedback was essential as without it our group may not see something that could use with improving however some other people may be able to pick it out so this helps us notice these things that need improving and change them to get better marks. Other people watching this who wasn't apart of the making will be honest thats a good thing about two of the people we chose to screen our thriller as we know they are both very opinionated and even though we knew them we knew they wouldn't be biased.
