Preliminary Task Evaluation

Evaluation

At the start we decided to show the use of match on action, this is were we see a charecter on screen start an action in one shot and then in the next shot we see them continuing this action in our perliminary task we used Sarah walking through the door and then in the next shot showing her closing the door on the other side. This is a effective way of filming as it cuts the time out of filming the hole action and also shows the character doing the action due to this an audience won't loose interest as the cut will be short and simple.

We then showed an eye line match this is when we get a glimpse of what a character in the camera is looking out for example our match line showed Sarah looking at something and then the next shot was of me to show the audience that Sarah was looking towards my way. Eye line matches are really effective towards an audience as it makes the audience really curious and depending on what the footage is about determines on the tension the audience feel about this. In our eye line match we was rather confused on how to do this and make it effective but due to filming this we understood more on this shot and will use this in future filming.

We also used a graphic match which we didn't have to do but thought it was best to have tried it so we could have known how good and how effective it would have been for future filming. A graphic match is were there are cuts to different scenes with similar or the same objects shown in both of the shots. In our footage we had a graphic match at the end with two pens were Sarah walked out with a pen on her jacket and then a cut to an extreme close up of my hand whilst writing with another pen.

After this we used shot/reverse shot  this is when we see a conversation of two charecters with the camera cutting from each of the charecters whilst this scene is going on. We done this by showing an over the shoulder shot of me and Sarah when we was having a conversation cutting between us using the over the shoulder shot showing each character speaking. This is really effective as the camera will show one of the characters talking at once rather than concentrating on both of them at the same time this helps an audience to just concentrate on on of the characters on the screen and their actions rather than both, this is a better shot to show a convocation between two people so the camera picks up more detail of the characters facial expressions and some body language to see more on how the character is feeling.

Finally we was told and taught to stick to the 180 degrees rule, this is when two characters in a scene should always have the same left/right relationship with one another so the camera cannot pass over the imaginary axis this is called crossing the line. In our footage we tried not to break this however in our over the shoulder shot was hard and can look as we broke this slightly however we didn't and the 180 rule was not broken this resulted to the scene still going smoothly.

In conclusion our most effective parts of our preliminary task were our match on action , shot/reverse shot and graphic match these made the footage realign interesting and effective as in our clip there was no interesting story or anything but the shots made it much more intresting and made the filming look more realistic this also made us think more and decide to do some shots learned by this task in our opening sequence thriller we would be filming in the future.

Preliminary Task

In this blog i am going to discuss the preliminary task that i filmed with two class mates which is a demonstration of continuity editing, the purpose of this task was to show how we can us match on action, shot/reverse shot, 180 degree rule and eyeline match.

The Art Of The Title

This website is a website showing clips of movie title sequences and how they are made. We are looking at this site as it will help us with our title sequence in the opening of our thriller. The website is very interesting as it shows different categories of title sequences which is easy to see. The webpage has different title sequences including film, Tv and video game title sequences.  In this blog i am going to be using screen shots too explain how the website works.

The site gives you a variety of options to choose the title sequences from, you can look at title sequences based on genre, year or ones with most ratings. You also have the option to search for an in particular  title sequence of your choice if you wish too.

When selecting a title sequence, the site provides you with all the information on the film that you need to know also giving you an explanation of the title sequence and explaining in detail what some of the things in the Title sequence are referring too.
